One of the Greatest Dads on Earth...errr....I mean Heaven!

It's surprises me how fast time can go by. Today, it has been two years since my dad died. I can look back and remember pretty much everything from that day and that first month. Time and faith does make it easier to cope with losing him but there are still moments when it gets hard to not have him around. Life is so short and can change in an instant. Nothing is as important as my family and he taught me that, even with his death. And even though I still can't talk about him for too long without crying I know that he is still around.

I've never known anyone so friendly, funny, smart and lovable. Most, if not all of my friends loved my dad. Most, if not all the people my dad came in contact with loved him. I sware he talked to everyone everywhere because everyone knew him.
I try to remember the little things about him. The way he would look at you sideways with a half grin, or when he gave you a big hug he would pat your back with both hands back and forth fast. Or when he had something important to say and couldn't remember what he was saying he'ld point and wag his finger. Uncle Rog does the best impression of this. You should ask him one day.

Did he drive my crazy sometimes? Well, duh. I was a teenager once and I did get yelled at for being a stupid teenager. But, I look back on those days and am very thankful for the way my Dad stepped into my life then and later. Probably one of the last talks we had was just a few months before he died. It consisted of the type of boy I should be dating/marrying. He took me out to dinner and I complained about how dorky boys are. He told me to 'look past the dorkiness'. Most of them were good and that even he was still a little dorky sometimes. So, thankfully for Chad, I did what he suggested.

He was/is a great man. And even though I miss him a lot I know he is working hard in Heaven and watching over us. Love ya DAD!

I can't believe it has been 2 years. I loved your dad! He was so great. I remember him always teasing me about all my crushes and calling him Monty Crocker while he was cooking. He was so great!!!

I can't believe it has been 2 years also. I remember when you came with Chad to look at houses and it was right around then when it had happened. That doesn't seem like very long ago at all! I totally cried reading your post and I didn't even know your dad. I guess he has that impact. I also cried a ton in the temple when you got married and the sealer was talking about your dad. He was definitely present for your marriage! Love ya tons and can't wait to see you in a few days!

Beth, that was beautifully written. I remember some of those classic Montisms, especially the finger wag. I think I even got that a couple times ;)

Beth this is very touching. Sounds like your dad was a great guy.

Hey it was good to meet you and to see you and Chad. I hope you have a great Christmas.

Seriously, you complained so much about that last lecture. Geez, I would have loved to be taken out to dinner by Dad even if it was accompanied by "good advice". Spoiled, as always!

By the way, Chad's dorkiness is one of his redeeming qualities. It helps him fit in with our family.

I miss the old man so much. I still catch myself wanting to call him and ask him a question. He was such a wealth of knowledge.

He also took me out to dinner for a similar reason, except it was to tell me to stop being a goof and get your life together.

Shoot, dad just used to take me out for food, cause I begged him to pay for my meals!! No lectures there. I do miss him calling before work was over for the day, asking me, "what's for dinner?" We did have him and mom over to the Sandy house for dinner quite often actually. I loved cooking for dad and also sneaking him treats when he was on the atkins diet!
Crazy thing about that pic, I came to your blog, scrolled down, and thought that was Jayden. They are twins!! Seriously. I love it.
Good post about the old man. He rocks! I love that I can feel him around so much too. Love ya, Kell
ps I remember the D to H speech on Christmas Eve 2001! How emabarrassing! Nate still married me though. And you and Seth turned out all right after all. I guess those speeches worked! jk. love ya tons

Beth, what a beautiful memorial to your dad. I loved hearing what your dad was like. Just from the descriptions I can see how you've become like your dad and see those traits. Thanks for sharing this with us.
